Where I'm At

Writer's picture: Pablo ChaconPablo Chacon

Its been a few weeks since I traded the "everyday social life" for the "adult life" and I am enjoying it. Over the past month I have been interning at the #1 Morning News Station in Southern California and every day I arrive and leave feeling grateful of having the opportunity to be there. I would have never thought that I would enjoy waking up at 5:15am and drive 40 minutes to West Hollywood but I do and every morning I am excited to start my day. With only one month left at my internship, I am enjoying every minute and trying to meet as many new people as I can. It will definitely be bitter sweet once my internship comes to an end but this opportunity has forced me to live a different lifestyle which I hope to continue. This new lifestyle has kept me focused and motivated about reaching my career goal.

My new lifestyle has also saved me money in a way because I rarely go out. My bedtime is around 9:30pm and going out on "work" days are very uncommon when you have to be up at 5:15am. Instead, I go out with friends every other week and catch up. This has not only saved me some money but increased the value of friendship. Stepping back for a bit also opened my eyes to acknowledge who my true friends are because they check up here and there.

In addition to having an internship, I have also been balancing work and school. This semester I have been working on creating my reel tape to send to news stations and improving my work. Last week I was able to co-anchor a newscast and it only got me more excited to venture out into the business.
